Asian specialist becomes dean in Cambridge

The Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge has appointed Arnoud de Meyer, deputy dean of Insead, as its next director. Prof De Meyer, 53, will take over the role in September 2006 from Sandra Dawson.
Prof de Meyer has been credited for spearheading Insead’s international expansion plans and for creating the school’s second campus in Singapore. Prof De Meyer became the founding dean of Insead’s Asia campus in 1999.
He was also tipped as the leading internal candidate for the deanship of Insead, following Gabriel Hawawini’s decision to step down there later this year. In December Insead announced that Frank Brown, a non-academic, would be the new Insead boss.
Prof De Meyer is the second of Insead’s old guard to leave the school this year. Henri-Claude de Bettignies, former professor of leadership and responsibility at Insead, quit the school in January to take up a post at Ceibs, in Shanghai. He will be professor of global responsible leadership at the Chinese school.
Prof De Bettignies joined Insead 30 years ago, in 1975, and Prof De Meyer has worked there since 1983.
