York, one of the UK’s most ancient cities, is hitting the twenty-first century with the establishment of the York St John Business School at the the York St John University.

The business school, which is intended initially to support the local market, is working with the Institute of Leadership and Management, the Northern Leadership Academy and the Chartered Institute of Management to deliver programmes. “This is a very exciting venture for York St John University which will aid a wide range of local and regional businesses and community groups around Yorkshire,” says Jackie Mathers, boss of the business school. “We are unique to the local area and have a track record of providing expert assistance to organisations, large and small.”

The York St John Business School will offer undergraduate degrees and some postgraduate modules as well as executive programmes, starting with New Managers’ Programme, Learning through Business Leaders, Counselling and Mentoring and IT and Leadership Development.

Though this is York’s first business school, it is not the first in Yorkshire, where Bradford School of Management and Leeds University Business School are frequently rated in the Financial Times business school rankings.
