When the Wimbledon final tomorrow between Switzerland's Roger Federer and Spain's Rafael Nadal is over, followers of men's tennis will focus on the next great court battle: the legal fight between the organisers of the Hamburg clay tennis event and the governing body of the men's tour, the Association of Tennis Professionals, led by Etienne de Villiers .
Mr de Villiers - a former Disney executive who chairs BBC Worldwide and is a founding partner of private equity group Englefield Capital and on its advisory board with Land Securities chairman Paul Myners and Rolls-Royce boss Sir John Rose - has been pushing to jazz up the men's tour. To that end he is proposing to drop the Hamburg event for one in Madrid.
