Gold tops $900 on search for shelter

Gold prices jumped higher than $900 a troy ounce on Wednesday as investors rushed to the metal’s perceived haven status even as central banks around the world cut interest rates in an attempt to restore confidence in the financial system.

In London, spot bullion surged to an intraday high of $920 an ounce, a two- month peak.
